As I have stated here, http://www.broadbandforum.co.in/reliance/59-rconnect-post642.html#post642,

1KBps = 8 kbps (notice the capital 'KB' and the small 'kb')

the speed you see in the lower right corner is kbps so even if you connect at 56 kbps, your actual speed is 7 KBps.

'shreyasvista' the 11KBps you saw was actually around 5 KBps. What happens is the server sending out data compresses it and your modem uncompresses it, so you actually only recieve 5 KB but after uncompresing it becomes 11 KB.

To the OP, I have experienced all, from the worst of dial-up to the best.
My first modem was a 33.6 kbps modem so my actual download speed never went above 5 KBps. In fact it never actually went above 3 KBps, often times it would drop to below 1 KBps. Browsing at those speeds was unbearable.

My current home connection is also a dial-up. I use an airtel card and a nokia 9300 for internet. It connects at 115.2 kbps. I get around 5-7 KBps download at home and if I am in an edge area, I get around 30-34 KBps.
How's that for dial-up?
