I have used reliance r-connect for quite some time and am posting this review for it.

There are two distinct ways to use r-connect. The first is their Data-card or the Usb-Modem. The other is using your mobile/WLL and connecting it to your PC with a data cable or Bluetooth.

While I have personally never used the data card and usb-modem, The performance should not be much different than using through the mobile.

The connection provides an average of 8-10 KBps during peak hours. The max available is 18-20 KBps. Over a period of 4 months, I have experienced aorund 7-8 days of downtime.

As long as you are in range, it connects in a couple of seconds. The browsing experience is much better than other portable internet connections. Latencies are somewhat higher than your average broadband connection, but any normal user who is browsing two-three windows and has a couple if Im's open will have a smooth experience. Unfortunately the number of concurrent connections seem to be limited, as opening more than 5 or so connections at once slows the net to a crawl.

The tariffs are somewhat reasonable. There are multiple data based and some time based plans. In my opinion none of the time based plans are worth it. Users who are always online, but do not download anything significant should go for data based plans. Heavy users on the other hand should prefer something like the night unlimited schemes that let you download all you want at off-peak hours. Extremely light users, who only login like 10 mins to check their mail and then log out, should opt for prepaid connections. The charge is like 60p/min during day times and 30p/min during night times.

Completely unlimited plan is also available at rs.1500 but is definately not advisable unless you have absolutely no other option in your area.

Reliance R-connect is a good alternative for people who need internet on the move but do not have the luxury of having EDGE coverage.
