Default Modem purchase or rent better?

I had been previous user of BSNL and I had rented out their modem. But since I changed to Airtel (as iof now I had been renting modem) I am thinking of buying modem for myself. Also should I go for seperate wifi router and modem or combo?

There is nothing wrong if you can purchase a modem, it is far better than renting a modem. I think what we have purchased once, it became part of our life and we can take care of such hardware better. It is a human psyche and you should go for it.

This is something bad that the indian companies are not providing modems to the customers. If you are going to search internet you will find many good companies of world are providing modem free (initially) free to its customers. So india will take some time to get used to these.

Problem with buying modem is that they will not provide support for the modem after an year. If it is leased, it is going to be under warranty. For the purchased modems, you will have pay annually for service and warranty. You have to check to see if this is less than the rent money or vice versa.

They dont provide modems free, they just include the charge in the monthly bill. Try to cancel your contract and they will definately charge you for the modem. They lable it as a 'Termination charge'.

RENT THE MODEM..

These modem are quiet un reliable..
If you are renting one...it under warranty always..
call Cust service will be replaced in 24 hours...
Power adapters often over heated and they blewup...

I have changed 3 modem and 4 adapters till now.. this normally happens in summer when you keep the modem always on...

better to buy your own modem! buy a modem of reputable brand like Dlink, which are known for their quality.
Renting a modem may have it's own benefits but in the long run, it drills a hole in your pocket!

Depends on the plan you are opting.... some plans in Airtel have router rent free other imply 50or 60Rs charge! So let us know the plan to help you better? Also which type of modem you want wired or wifi?

Its far better to purchase a modem rather than paying monthly rent for it, moreover, if you disconnect the connection you keep the hardware and use it for the new connection!
