Airtel DTH Review

October 18th, 2008

Although Airtel has joined the DTH scene late they really have a great chance to give a good competition to other DTH players in India if only if they could adopt an aggressive and innovative marketing techniques. And they have started off well with their launch ad and the publicity they got with their spat between them and Big TV regarding their ad.

Their new DTH service has been named as Airtel Digital TV.

Although with the launch offer they have not made no heads turn unlike they did with their launch ad which featured bollywood stars like A.R. Rahman, Saif Ali Khan, etc as well as cricketers in a single ad. But they have failed to capitalize on it without giving something new to get the initial viral marketing thing going on.

Airtel Digital TV has some new features like universal remote and Airtel Live which boasts some unheard or new features at least in the Indian DTH scene.

Talking about the universal remote, with this remote you can actually operate the set-top box, that comes along with the Airtel DTH, and your TV as well. Thus you don’t have to switch between two remote controls to operate your TV and the set top box while watching.

There is also a feature called Airtel Live where you can enjoy other stuffs like ordering movie tickets through your TV, planning your travel, ordering movies on demand, and even you can get astrology with Airtel Live.

What’s more unique about this service of Airtel Live is that you can do all these premium service from the comfort of your TV itself! But you might need to shell out extra money to avail these premium services.

Along with the regular TV channels you also get to subscribe to the Worldspace Satellite Radio, where you get access to all the stations that come along. This will be just like any other channel and you will need to pay subscription if you want to avail Worldspace Radio in your package.

Initially, they have come up with an offer of just by paying Rs. 2000 you get one full year subscription for free where you get around 70+ channels for free. If you want to watch any other additional channels apart from the listed channels you will need to pay for it.

There are also plans without the above offer. You get to choose from them according to your preference. But it is still not clearly mentioned on various tariff plans yet, as they are still on the roll out phase and it will be clearer in a few weeks or a month. But there are three options to choose when it comes to tariff plans, i.e., silver, gold and platinum.

With this addition of one more player in the DTH arena, the competition surely is getting hot and in the end the benefit should be transferred to the end users rather than transferring it among the DTH service providers. Soon one more additional service is expected in DTH and that will be Videocon DTH.

You can discuss about this article at Airtel dth forum.

May 27th, 2008

AsusTek has announced to launch the next version of Eee PC at Computex trade show this June. This new version of one of the most successful low-cost laptops will be based on Intel “Atom” processor which has been specifically made for low-cost laptops.
Atom is a part of Intel low-cost category processors which are made to be used in ultra-mobile PCs, Mobile Devices and other small devices which are aimed at connecting to internet. Atom is based on 25mn technology and uses very less power of 0.6 watts to 2.5 watts to work efficiently.
Low-cost laptop market was started by OLPC Foundation with its dream XO laptop but this dream project soon ran into different problems and presently is at the verge of collapse.
AsusTek’s Eee PC is one of the most successful low-cost laptops made till date as company has managed to sell more than one million units since its launch. At the launch this laptop was mainly targeted to developing markets mainly in Asia but surprisingly company got a good amount of response from European market which account for more than 40 percent of total sales.
It is also expected that AsusTek can see a good amount of competitors in near future as 25 other laptops are under development from different companies. Taiwan’s MSI and Giga-Byte as already announced that they will soon launch their low-cost laptops in market which will compete AustsTek’s Eee PC.

Airtel broadband

December 6th, 2007

Airtel broadband connection is supposed to be the best broadband connection available in India as far as reliability and quality of customer service is concerned but I haven’t had very good experiences with airtel mobile lately, I was over billed for six months continuously and even after being assured a number of times that the next bill will be adjusted nothing was done so I had to get my mobile phone disconnected and they still have me as a defaulter even when they owe me money in reality. If you have an option of reliance broadband then go with them to avoid unnecessary billing or other customer service related issues.

Airtel data card

November 30th, 2007

Airtel broadband has earned its reputation by providing better broadand services and customer support then its competetors but airtels data card isint doing very well on that font.I used airtel data card for about 4 months and I hated it so much that I gave it to some one for free and got rid of the connection as well. I used to pay I think Rs500 per month and I was never able to log into my google adsense account not even once and nor was I able to log into paypal as the connection would time itself out by the time the page loaded.

I have got a new reliance data card now and I am more then happy with the performance both quality wise and speed.

Reliance data card

November 29th, 2007

I bought my new reliance data card three days ago and got a chance to use it since yesterday. I paid around 9000Rs for a year rental and got the data card free with it with a monthly limit of 1Gb which is not bad atall.

I had an impression that a wireless connection in India cannot be any better then a dial up connection but reliance data card has proven my beliefs wrong. I downloaded some files yesterday and got a constant speed o 13-14kB/s which is almost equal to a 128kbps connection and that too wireless :)

I dont have any regrets for buying this reliance data card and If you are looking to get a wireless connection just dont think twice.. go for reliance netconnect data card and you will love it.. make sure you choose the right package.

If you have any questions about the reliance data card or their service and qualiy please feel free to ask here or in the broadband forum and I will be more then happy to reply to your queries as soon as possible.

Airtel broadband’s 8mbps plan launched

October 16th, 2007

Airtel India recently announced their new plan which boasts a speed of upto 8mbps which is music to my ears but then anything good in India comes with something sad attached to it and this time its the data transfer limit which is such a curse. What use is an airtel 8mbps connection if you cant download more then a few GB per month. The amount of badwidth airtel is offering with its 8mbps plan can actually be used up in a few hours if yo start downloading two movies that is it for the month.

I would love to see an unlimited 8mbps connecion from a few isps in India and that too with a decent price tag like 2000rs a month or something in those lines.

Please feel free to discuss about this new airtel broadband’s offering at the Airtel broadband forum and share your views with the fellow netizens of India.
