Default Calling All BSNL Guru's

I have some Queries that I hope that all those who use BSNL will be able to help me.....

U see that I have recently shifted to Ahmedabad. This City though not like the 4 metros, but is at par with cities like GURGOAN, PUNE, NOIDA, etc...
Morerover there are a number of private service providers here such as AIRTEL, TATA, RELIANCE, SIFY, etc along with a number of small Player like Icenet, SITI cabel, etc...
This information is posted by me b'coz it may help you in answering the the following queries that I am posting..

Q.1) I have shifted to this house in the city and it already has The BSNL SOCKET (TWO PIN SOCKET FOUND IN ALL HOMES FOR BSNL PHONE CONNECTION) now the problem is that I am planning to go for BSNL HOME PLAN 3300 or BSNL 8 MBps (HAVE NOT DECIDED YET) and I have found on the net that the old copper wires used by BSNL earlier won't be able to provide such high end and stable comnnections so for that fiber optics cabels may be used. This house has copper wires I am sure.
So please guide what should I do...???

Q.2) I have also come across on some of the old posting of this forum that state that BSNL tend to block TORRENT SITES. Now is that true.????

Q.3) Also can someone lemme knw what will Be that HTTP Downloading Speed for Both the Connections BSNL HOME PLAN 2MBps and BSNL 8 MBps. Anyone using these connections give suggestions...

Q.4) In case of BSNL 8 MBps PLAN I further found on the net that the BSNL Machinery and BSNL Modems (the one which they give on rent or purchase) lack the ability to give a 8 MBps and the speed will be more or less 2 MBps.. only. If the following case is true will purchase of different Modem from Market help.

Q.5) Can anyone provide me with a Toll Free Number of BSNL where I can ask and clear all Such Queries...

Thanks for reading and answering (if u happen to)

1) Copper wires are fine for these connections and by the way bsnl doesnt provide fiber optic cables for last mile. 24mbps connections are working fine on telephone lines in UK provided by bethere.co.uk and those phone lines are more then 40 years old in some places and still work fine.

2) No Bsnl does not block torrents and even if they do in future there are ways to get around this problem.

All the bsnl modems are adsl2 capable and are fine for 8meg connections.

The best thing to do is go down o your local bsnl office. Bsnl guys who pick up the customer service phones are good for nothing. Most of them done even know what adsl stands for leave alone helping you with technical issues.

The best way to find out the download speed would be check out someones connection in your own locality because if some one here says they get xyz speed they might be living right next to the exchange where one would get maximum speed and on the other hand some one getting very low speed might be living 10 kilometres away and in that case bsnl is not at fault atall.

Check out what people on your street get and expect something similar when your connection is up and running.

As of your 1 question then you should contact BSNl directly. As of your second question, yes BSNL had been banned from torrents sites. I know this cause i have used BSNL on torrent sites and they dont work for me. Third, I am also looking for their 2 mbps and 8 mbps connection, cant get any info of their unlimited plan and 4 th again should be asked from BSNL.

Thumbs up

For 2MBPS connection the download speed will be approx 40-60KBPS and for 8MBPS connection it will be approx 200-220KBPS, as much as I am concerned. But one thing I can say, you can't never claim why I'm not getting the desired download speed, because the download speed depends on the current traffic in the line, the server traffic from where you are downloading, so it will definitely vary.
