Default Problem while connecting from desktop

The way it used to work at my end is that you store GUEST GUEST as login/pass in the modem and make a new connection in the desktop and use it to connect but now its giving me ERROR 678 when i do it this way but if i store it in my modem then works fine which isn't quite fine for me because i am not having night UL plan and while i keep the pc to shutdown automatically before 8am my modem still stays connected whereas if by the first way that is by making a connection on desktop, when the pc shuts down the connection is dropped.

Any suggestions?

1.Please mention your modem model and make .

2. Create a new dialer .
Start All programs/Accessories/Communications
Network connection wizard.
Select using User Id and P/w

Error 678 means your ID or password is not correctly,
or modem settings not correct.

If you have a broadband connection and are getting this error,

it generally means that your TCP/IP stack is corrupted and
needs to be restored. There are a few things to try:
First and foremost, restart your computer, and wait
until all applications and services are finished loading
before trying your connection again.
If you have Windows XP you can use the "netsh" command
to reset your tcp/ip interfaces.
Click "Start" then select "Run".
In the box that appears, type "cmd" and
click the "OK" button.
When the command window appears,
type "netsh interface ip reset log.txt"
and hit the enter button.
You can now type "exit" in the command window,
and hit the enter button. Restart your computer and try again.
If the above solutions do not solve your problem,
reinstall your adapter drivers, or tcp/ip drivers.
Para two:

For switching off modem at about 2AM etc for NU;

Check whether eth0 is up or fails when the system boots [eth0 FAILED]. if it fails then try to install the required modules.
