Ethernet connection is much reliable than the usb connection .
and broadband speed can also be more on ethernet connection .

Default Ethrenet's the best

you have a proof in front of your eyes... if you connect using usb.. you'll see LAN connected at 12Mbps... that's what windows says... but when u connect it with ethernet u'll see 100Mbps.... based on this speed only data will be transferred to ur pc from modem....

I can say for sure that using an ethernet cable is a better idea then using the usb cable and there are more then one reasons for doing so.. one that usb connections are slower then an ethernet cable connection and second that using usb would make your pc work harder and reduce your pc's life in the long run.. its different that you change your machine every year for a latest one but still if you like to run a number of different applications at one go, taking off your usb connection and putting in an ethenet cable will reduce the work load for your pc.

As far as I know, there is no much difference between Ethernet and USB,

You might think that the speed that you see after gettting connected is the internet speed. But the 100MBPS and 12MBPS is the connection between the Computer and the modem. It works effectively only when you are having a speed more than 2 MBPS.

Anyways there is a very little difference in speed between the Ethernet and USB
