I think that Dialup should be made free now. It will naturally increase the internet penetration in India. it can be done after 10pm so as it doesnt congest the network.

It would be better if we can see some decrease in rates of DSL, what you think about it? I think all of us need some development in this. Dial-up was better in past but it can't compete our fast and resources enriched life. Definitely we need something faster and reliable, Dial-ups can't go that way.

Why would they give it for free ? This dose not make any sence . If you are getting a service you should get some thing for it .

If you were around in the starting days of internet in india, you had probably heard of caltiger. (Actually i'm am not sure if that is the name, If anybody knows please inform me.) They would display a bar at the top of your screen and in exchange would allow you to browse the net free of charge. The bar is used to display ads.
They were too early with the idea. Now, with online advertising becoming so big, is probably the right time for some company to come up with the same business style. In fact, not a bad idea. I think i'll look into this myself.

Nothing in life is free my friend. Dial up sucks if you look at the speed. But no body is going to give it free. In US some companies were doing it for a while. But they went out of business soon.

I am not talking about free internet. I am talking about free internet for the 'consumer.' Basically recover the costs by showing them ads. For them it is free, for the company, you earn from ads.

Dial-up might be horrible if you look at speeds compared to Broadband but you must also consider that, percentage wise, hardly anyone has access to internet and free dial-up will let them access internet whenever they want and as much as they want without worrying about monthly bills, etc.

Unfortunately, the same purposes are served by cyber-cafes.

Firstly dial up connection is like, trying to drive a Fiat car which will just stop at a red light, when you least want it to.What is the use of Dial up, when it just doesn't have speed, even for free.

well, it's a novel idea to free the dial up connection. but in country like India, this is not possible.
Instead we should now focus on laying better infrastructure for "BROADBAND" penetration into India, so that a few years from now, we are not left behind ...

I dont think that this will ever happen. No company will provide any service for free of cost and as of the dialup i am sure that they will definately not provide it no matter even not used by anyone anymore in cities.
