Default what was the highest speed in dial-up???

hmm.. long long ago, even i had been using dial-up connection when broadbands were meant for cyber cafe..
it was awful.. i had to wait for a min or so to get yahoo webpage.. even downloading an image would take some time..
so, what was the highest speed that you got in dial-up.. only once i got 52kbps..after which i used to get an average of 42kbps or rarely 48kbps..
i have even browsed with 2kbps.. (actually i tried to browse, but was not possible!!!)
share your experience too...

I used to wakeup early in the morning for checking my mails. In mornings I used to get 42kbps as far as I can remember. And late at nights, I got maximum of 33.3kbps of speed. Thats best I had ever got.

I have noticed that almost all companies advice to limit your modem for 33400 or something. I think they have described that we shall get few disconnect or even don't even one. I always expected not to be connected over 40 and I hadn't.

I am worried to see on reply where someone replied as 3 KB as the highest speed Anyhow highest speed from a dial up for me was 48, at that time I was amazed to browse with speed because that worked very well.

As I have stated here, http://www.broadbandforum.co.in/reliance/59-rconnect-post642.html#post642,

1KBps = 8 kbps (notice the capital 'KB' and the small 'kb')

the speed you see in the lower right corner is kbps so even if you connect at 56 kbps, your actual speed is 7 KBps.

'shreyasvista' the 11KBps you saw was actually around 5 KBps. What happens is the server sending out data compresses it and your modem uncompresses it, so you actually only recieve 5 KB but after uncompresing it becomes 11 KB.

To the OP, I have experienced all, from the worst of dial-up to the best.
My first modem was a 33.6 kbps modem so my actual download speed never went above 5 KBps. In fact it never actually went above 3 KBps, often times it would drop to below 1 KBps. Browsing at those speeds was unbearable.

My current home connection is also a dial-up. I use an airtel card and a nokia 9300 for internet. It connects at 115.2 kbps. I get around 5-7 KBps download at home and if I am in an edge area, I get around 30-34 KBps.
How's that for dial-up?

I dont think that i ever got more then 8 kbps speed at any cost.

Most of the time i surfed at 2-3 kbps speed. I know this was a very slow speed and many other people got more then this speed but this is what i was stuck with.
