In this forum a lot of posters seem misinformed about KBps and kbps.
the most important thing is, 1 KBps = 8 kbps The Capital KB stands for kilobytes, while the small kb stands for kilobits. These two terms are required due the the way computers are designed. Hardware and advertisers will show kilobits but software shows kilobytes. When people say that they have a 2 mbps connection, they actually mean that they have a 256 KBps connection. How did I get this? 2 mbps = 2048 kbps (1 mb =1024 kb or 2^10 KB) 2048 kbps / 8 = 256 KBps. When you use the internet, the maximum possible speed you can get is this last number. When you call up customer care or ask a shop keeper, they will usually tell you that download speeds and browsing speeds are different. They are wrong, both browsing speed and download speed are subject to a maximum which is the connection speed, in this example 256 KBps. |
