I am using Reliance Wimax from past 2weeks, it was working gr8 for the first 2 to 3 days. Then it started with errors like sudden disconnection, unidentified network, no network, unable to connect to DNS server... and lots of crap!! Once it gets disconncted, reconnecting it again really is a pain in butt. It would take some 3 or 4 hours to connect again. Maybe a whole day sometimes. So i finally found out solution for this problem. For now i know only 1 way to do it is, call up the Reliance care, and tell them to reset the IP of your account. They will do it within 2mins. And then you are connected and ready to use. Oh and dont forget to logout your account everyday.

And what sort of speeds are you getting and is the speed the same all throughout the day or does it go down during peak hours in the evening?

i am on 150kbps unlimited download plan. well i get good speed for browsing, and downloading speed is about 18 to 20KB/ps. And the speed stays the same, speed neva gone down. I am on internet 24hours a day. Well it is 3:40am right now Oh well now agian am back with an another solution to get connected, when you get errors like unidentified network or any connectivity error... What you have to do is, just unplug the power cord of the reliance equipment and wait for 10seconds, then plug it again. And restart your pc. You will be connected!!!!

Yup, any WiMax technician will tell you the same solution again and again i.e. unplug all the connecting cables(PoE adapter and your system), power off and power on the PoE adapter after 10 to 15 seconds. Finally replug the cables and restart the system as well. This does not necessarily circumvent the Limited or No Connectivity issue and you may easily end up with a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx ip assigned by the their sucking DHCP server.
A better and reliable solution is that to provide continuous power supply from a backup source(UPS) to the PoE adapter . This is what I've been doing. I have a laptop and I use it to browse internet in my room and at my office as well, both of which are on different network and hence always assign different IP addr to my system. So, when I come back from office to my room, I just have to restart my system and replug the ethernet cable and I'm done, I always get connected .

I also have a list of commands given to me by a WiMax technician to execute inorder to get an ip from the DHCP server. I can post it if anybody need the same...can come handy some time.

I have always liked the idea of wimax from the very begining as it is wireless and a local powercut wont make any difference if youv got power backup for your pc or laptop which would run for a couple of hours on batteries anyway.. you will not get any disconnections.
Oh no, this is the downside of WiMax, you have to provide continuous power to the PoE adapter in order to browse internet continuously. PoE adapter is the one which in turn provides power to the subscriber station(antenna) to function and send/receive signals.

So during power cut apart from providing backup power supply to your system, you have to provide continuous power supply to the PoE adapter.

I have used the Reliance Wimax thing when i was at Banglore with my brother. I was on the 300k plan.. But it always had the disconnection problems due to low signal. I had made some telnet scripts to check the telnet scripts to check the signal sstaatus and also change the ips..Aanyway it is a great technology.. I should admit that

Question WiFi Router with POE setup help

Hello All,

Recently I got a new WIMAX connection from Reliance in Bangalore with 300 kbps scheme. The speed looks good.

I need a small help in setting up WiFi router with reliance connection.
Wimax connection antenna is attached to POE box. I directly connect my laptop to this POE box via RJ45 cable and I get the IP Address. When I browse I am able to get Reliance home page and I can login and start browsing the net.
Now the issue is that I can't keep my laptop connected to this RJ45 connector and move in the entire house. So I plan to use WiFi Router. I have Netgear (WG614) which I have configured with default setting for wireless communication. Now I connect my RJ45 cable from POE to the Internet port of Router. It shows amber light for Internet. Whereas I get a private IP for my laptop and I am connected to Wireless. When I try to open the Reliance Home page. It gives error, saying no connection found.

I want to know how can I do this setup so that I can browse the internet using wireless connection. Is there any configuration to be done on Router or POE box. Please help me. Its urgent.

Thanks
Fido
