Hi Karthik,

I have taken an apartment in Marathahalli and my PC is placed in a room with no wires for the telephone. So wired broadband seems to be out of consideration.
Do you think I can use Reliance WiMax as an alternative? Are the speeds good?

Regards

As for wimax connection you will still need to connect your PC with the Wimax device if there is a way to lay a cable between the wimax device on top of your roof and your PC inside your room i don't think there will be any problems.

Recently I got a new WIMAX connection from Reliance in Bangalore with 300 kbps scheme. The speed looks good.

I need a small help in setting up WiFi router with reliance connection.
Wimax connection antenna is attached to POE box. I directly connect my laptop to this POE box via RJ45 cable and I get the IP Address. When I browse I am able to get Reliance home page and I can login and start browsing the net.
Now the issue is that I can't keep my laptop connected to this RJ45 connector and move in the entire house. So I plan to use WiFi Router. I have Netgear (WG614) which I have configured with default setting for wireless communication. Now I connect my RJ45 cable from POE to the Internet port of Router. It shows amber light for Internet. Whereas I get a private IP for my laptop and I am connected to Wireless. When I try to open the Reliance Home page. It gives error, saying no connection found.

I want to know how can I do this setup so that I can browse the internet using wireless connection. Is there any configuration to be done on Router or POE box. Please help me. Its urgent.

Thanks

Hi Fido
I think most probly, you may need a static ip for your wimax stn...you can check with Reliance guys about this...In this kind of config, a dhcp may not be an ideal scenario
anyways, what you can try out is, try assigning a static ip for your wireless wifi router lan in your laptop along the same series...192.168.1.x...and then see if you are able to browse...just a hunch

Default speed in Broadband

@ To All Internet Users.....
Broadband is known as Digital subscriber line (DSL).means the bandwidth is been shared between the users who are using at a same time.
People say that the browsing speed does not remain constant as they get speed in office connection.
Let me tell you something Corporate are having Dedicated line or can be said Leased line. Which gives almost accurate speed, and comes with much more higher price then broadband. The cost is something which is not affordable for Individuals or can say not for common people.
No service Provider can clam that the Broadband connection they are providing will give the full speed.
WIMAX has been launched to reduce the usage of Wire, which comes through digging Road side, hanging on walls, hanging near to the Electricity polls, and many more places which are too dangers for you as well as for your system.
About Reliance Wi Max- Reliance is the only service Provider in Bangalore, which does not have Fair usage Policy.
What ever you do, your bill will never increase.
But in terms of other service provider they follow fair usage policy. So be careful, one fine day you can have a bill which can have a amount, which you never dream of.
If you are not a Reliance Wi Max Customer, then talk to your ISP Customer-care to know the limit which is there…..
