Default Rconnect

Has anyone used Rconnect?

I had used this facility by reliance about 3 years ago when I switched to BSNL and then ultimatly 6 months later to Airtel. Speeds at that time were adequate being about 5-7kBps download. Is it still same or has it improved?

R connect datacards give a speed like around 130KBPS. And its the only better options in datacards

There is a lot difference of speeds in both posts and I am wondering that if there is some card which allow only 5-7 kb/s, that is very poor speed. I thin almost all companies have more than 100 KBS in these days.

5 to 7 kbps is really really low. That is worse than dial up. You will not be able to do any thing at all on the net with that kind of speed. I usually get dial up speed of 30kbps or so.

I think a few things need to be cleared up.

First 1 KBps = 8 kbps
i.e. 1 kilobytes per second = 8 kilobits per second (notice the captial 'B' and the small 'b')

Unfortunately all advertisements are done in kilobits.

The 144 kbps advertised for r-connect is actually 18 KBps not 130 kBps as stated by 'shreyasvista'.
Also 'suvi', you may get 30 kbps in dial-up. But most software are designed for Kbps not kbps. So your actual top speed is 4 Kbps.

Please do not state that you get speeds more than that because that is very much possible as most modern modems automatically compress data but they show uncompressed data rates.

I used it a couple of months back and have to say there is no improvement. Speeds are still 5-7 KBps during peak hours, but if you are in uncongested area or are browsing in non-peak hours speeds upto 20 KBps is easily achived.
But i still wouldn't recommend them as EDGE services are cheaper, not to mention that they are faster too.

I don't know if you can do any thing at all with 5-7 kbps (orKBps). Both are way too low for any practical purposes. I am using a 2mbps connection.

You are actually using a 256 KBps connection.
I have been using internet for a long time and let me tell you, at one time I would have killed to get 7 KBps.

My home connection is an airtel card and I am in a non-edge zone, so I only get speeds of 5 KBps or in your terms 40 kbps. I am still able to browse comfortably and I download an average of 350 MB per day.
