By airtel wireless connection he means that something sort of GPRS or EDGE. satellite connecting as such has to be taken from govt. of India and has a lot of legal hassles in procuring.

I actually dont know much about it. But my Dad works in SBI and is currently posted somewher remote in Uttrakhand state. They have CBS branch and since there is not even a landlinein that village so getting DSL is difficult there. So SBI got themselves a V-Sat connection which is a sattelite based conection. You must have seen a lot of dish antennae on top of ATM booths. they are all Sat antennae.

GPRS is available throughout India and its got even etter with EDGE technology and yes if you come to India you can stay connected to the WWW using tens of networks available here. Unlike other countries we have all tree major technologies.. wll, cdma and gsm available here so where ever you come from connectivity will never be a problem.

In Jan almost all of India will be connected through a massive wimax network (worlds largest) which will let you surf the net at speeds more then 512kbps on the go isint it cool Nokia will launch their first ever wimax enabled phone in Jan here in India.

Things are looking very bright from where I am sitting this is why the world is pouring in money here in India... (I meant investing)

But quality of service seems to be one big problem in here. With poor judicial operators can get away with poor service they provide. I have been trying Hutch care since past two days and all I am getting is a busy tone

Satellite connections are different from the ones that you get on your mobile phone, currently Airtel and a few more ISP’s provide these connections. These are mostly used in remote parts of the country, heck in the town of Lukung (32kms before Pangong Tso in Ladakh), there are no telephones but there is an internet café thanks to satellite internet connection.
