Hi all,
I took a new Tata Indicom Wimax connection and have some observations that may be useful for others. 1. Plans without "plus" do not seem to give a public IP!! (very bad, Tata...) * This might cause problems for people who want to use VPNs or features such as port forwarding * Though a dynamic IP is common, it's surprising that you get a private IP (10.x.x.x) rather than a public IP for an internet connection?!?! 2. The "plus" plans give you a static, public IP address. 3. User is required to login through a web page everytime he/she switches on the Wimax device. No login, no internet :-( * This is a useless requirement. Why do ISPs need logins for fixed location connections?!?!? * The login can be disabled on request - call customer support and request them to disable the login requirement 4. Speeds may vary with distance from tower. Not sure if weather has any effect... I'm waiting for the monsoon. Hope that helps someone. Regards, --NV |
